Only reason I knocked half a star off is I think Marc can be slightly more proactive in letting homeowners know what to expect with the whole process, from what exactly he will be looking for and why to what the next steps are post inspection - especially if there are fixes to be had.
This was the first time my husband and I have bought a home, so we were in the camp of you don t know what you don t know in terms of what questions to ask. For one, I didn t realize the radon test would take a few days to do and get results back from, and while it had no effect on our purchase timeline, it would have been nice to know that ahead of time and that s something to note for those that have offers contingent on inspections or tight timelines to follow.
Marc also mentioned he s a licensed contractor, so he could use that as an opportunity to upsell his services, which he didn t with us. We were just given the report, mostly without tips on how to rectify any problem, other than a mention of whether it was a DIY fix or a professional fix. That had no bearing on my overall rating, but is simply a suggestion for him to consider adding to his business strategy. I called around a few companies for different quotes and Marc was the only one that directly talked to me prior about my concerns and scheduling. Other companies either asked me to leave a voice message or led me directly to a call center. More importantly, his inspection fee was also significantly lower than all the others! He was always very responsive, especially when I had to reschedule my appointment and the FSI website also makes it very easy to schedule an appointment and pay during the pandemic.Marc was very professional and practiced social distance guidelines. You can tell he's been doing home inspections for a long time. Along the way, he would explained to me each device he was using to complete the home inspection. One of the devices included using infrared to detect moisture or leaks which was really helpful because I already had evidence of water floor damage. He really took his time to look at every inch of the condo unit and answered all our questions during the process. At the end of the day because of Marc, I was also able to locate things like gas and water shut off valves or even how to change the filter for my new HVAC system. I was shocked that I was able to get the online inspection report by the end of the night! Not only was the report very detailed and easy to read, but it included pictures and videos for each safety concerns or violations. I also liked how he included recommendations for things to look out in the future. For example, I found out that my dishwasher's tubing should've been hung higher in order to prevent back flow. Only reason I knocked half a star off is I think Marc can be slightly more proactive in letting homeowners know what to expect with the whole process, from what exactly he will be looking for and why to what the next steps are post inspection - especially if there are fixes to be had. This was the first time my husband and I have bought a home, so we were in the camp of you don t know what you don t know in terms of what questions to ask. For one, I didn t realize the radon test would take a few days to do and get results back from, and while it had no effect on our purchase timeline, it would have been nice to know that ahead of time and that s something to note for those that have offers contingent on inspections or tight timelines to follow. Marc also mentioned he s a licensed contractor, so he could use that as an opportunity to upsell his services, which he didn t with us. We were just given the report, mostly without tips on how to rectify any problem, other than a mention of whether it was a DIY fix or a professional fix. That had no bearing on my overall rating, but is simply a suggestion for him to consider adding to his business strategy.
